Fairness Local
Affiliates Contact Racial Fairness America exists to help level the playing field for People of Color. We solicit resources from white people through
local affiliates, who in turn offer them -- with no strings attached – to
groups supporting communities of color. A white person in America typically
has, in many ways, more opportunity than an identical person with darker
skin. So the white person gets more, and
the Person of Color gets less, despite putting in the same effort. Less wealth,
less influence, fewer of the things that make life sweet. We are addressing these consequences,
not the root causes – because we’re realistic about what we can do.
We believe that collaborating with people of all colors on a large scale
can make a big difference, maybe even a transformative one. How is this approach different from what’s
been done before? In all of these ways: It uses a unique division of labor
based on what each group can do best. In our model, white people solicit
money, time, skills, physical goods, and other resources entirely from other
white people, because we all tend to have our strongest networks within our own
communities. We raise the awareness of white people about the systemic racism that
tends to be invisible to them, because they benefit from it.
We also appeal to white people’s sense of fairness (a traditional American
value) rather than guilt or pity, and we try to build bonds between individuals
of different races by stressing the donation of time, services, and skills, not
just money. Within our local affiliates, People
of Color have control of where the donated resources go. This model is designed
not to be in any way a White Saviorism project. It’s up to People of Color in
the vicinity to determine which organizations or projects ought to benefit from
what the white folks have rustled up.
